And here, I'm dancing
On the ground

Sun in Capricorn
Capricorn's are mainly concerned with making a success of life. This could be said of any Sign, but Capricorn's aim is to do this by getting the hang of how things actually work down here on Planet Earth. They, therefore, are decidedly down-to-earth and don't cling to abstract concepts and lofty ideals for justification. What satisfies this urge is a sense of purpose and responsibility. They feel a part of this world when they feel its weight upon their shoulders and its ground beneath their feet.

The sea-goat, the original sign of Capricorn, is half-goat and half-fish. The upper, or goat, half represents an earthly and persistent climber. But when the climber stumbles or falls, or just begins to realize that there is more to life than can be physically sensed, Capricorns' begin to acquaint themselves with that other world of the fish; the mystical, irrational, unconscious inner realm. And when Capricorn gets spiritual, it does so with the same pragmatic efficency with which it dealt with in the material world. In fact, at an evolved level, they don't see any difference. And so Capricorn's come to realize how truly useful an awareness of the reality of invisible forces (such as thoughts, feelings, and most importantly, the imagination) is, and that roots and foundations, upon which everything is actually built, are usually out of sight.

If Capricorns' are practically attuned to the underlying mystical realities of life on Earth, rather than just being superstitious, then they are able to truly reach the pinnacle of Earthly success, the highest point, from which the next step up is Heaven, a little bit of which they can then bring down to Earth, with which to guide and govern.

Positives: Responsible, efficient, ambitious, industrious, reserved, patient, thoughtful, deep understanding, resourceful, persevering, earthy, senses others' needs.

Negatives: Unscrupulous, "wet blanket", slave to self, dictatorial, inhibited, worrisome, suspicious, philistine, opportunist.
Moon in Capricorn
Security is built upon a base of being useful to society and seeking justification in its eyes - for better or for worse. Such a need can incline those with moon in Capricorn to undervalue when they want from and for themselves. This in turn can lead to feeling unloved, unwanted or inferior in some way. This is why the Moon is said to be in its Detriment in Capricorn, for seeking external approval to allay inner doubts proves detrimental to their personality as a whole.

Whether it shows or not, they have a great need to be needed. So others come to rely on them to keep things together materially in some way. This can make them indispensable, but if having this need met means losing sight of their inner worth, they can wind up feeling a bit of a slave. In other words, by not trusting the importance of their own inner values and subscribing to those that outside pressures dictate, they are in danger of feeling let down, by both themselves and the state of affairs around them.

However, it is important to recognise how and why this distrust of their inner self occurred in the first place, and subsequently created a distrust of others. The Moon symbolizes the Child - both literally and in the sense of the "Child within". Capricorn is the Sign that governs the "big, bad world out there" - concrete or man-made reality. So the Moon is not happy in Capricorn, for the Child is thrust harshly into the material world. This can mean that they literally had a hard or deprived childhood. Burdens may have been piled upon their small shoulders; austere and oppressive surroundings may have been their lot. There may have been something lacking in their father, or a lack of him altogether, and this could have cast a shadow over their mother that was passed onto them in some way. Whatever their childhood circumstances, they learnt, though their material or emotional difficulties, to become a survivor.

Positives: Modest, reserved, achiever, hardworking, determined, loyal, influential, respected, sensitive, self-sacrificing, efficient helper.

Negatives: Distrustful, self-doubting, inhibited, depressive, boring, status-conscious, slave to system, sycophantic, self-serving.
Rising in Libra
With Libra Rising attempts are made to find identity as a counterweight to whatever is going on around and about them. Usually this is a matter of adjusting themselves to fit in and harmonize, and to consistently put forward "the case for the opposition". It can also mean if things are socially a bit dull, then a few caustic remarks may be in order. Or, conversely, a touch of seriousness could be introduced when the going gets too frivolous. This is all very well, but who is this person, this human counterweight? What are his or her own values, beliefs, convictions? It is very important that these are arrived at and acted upon if they are to avoid becoming a cipher who finds it impossible to get off the fence and make a decision that does not need the approval of whoever they regard as the "approving body".

It is especially important for them to have and maintain a relationship. This is in order to have a counterweight to their own counterweight, with a view to finding their mettle through a "worthy opponent". The condition by Sign and House of the Ruling Planet, Venus, will show how they might find a balanced individual identity - and a partner to match it and help them to create it.

Positives: Fair, attractive, socially aspiring and aware, diplomatic, friendly, popular, high principles, idealistic, good counsellor.

Negatives: Superficial, non-committal, lazy, "yes-person", insincere, easily upset, lacking confidence, compromising, indecisive.
Mercury in Capricorn
"Thinking through building" means two things mainly. Firstly, when building, one has to have a plan, which means that some sort of goal is essential. Those with Mercury in Capricorn have to have something worthwhile to chew on, otherwise solving petty problems or dealing with endless paperwork could be their mental lot. Theirs is either a dull or a constructive mind, depending on what they are directing it towards. Secondly, building is always done in definite stages. On the one hand, this means that they have a decidedly methodological mind, the kind that can produce a good organizer and successful business person. But on the other, they can be inclined to get stuck on one level of thinking which can lead to metal or professional stagnation. So they need to keep building, but not forgetting to add a definite dash of idealism to their natural pragmatism.

They have most likely been conditioned to regard knowledge and their ability to think as the main assurances that they are on the right track and will get on in the world. If, however, they found formal or book learning painfully difficult, they could have lurched the other way and become quite scornful of intellectuality. On finding that this puts them at a social or professional disadvantage, hwoever, they might then strive to become a master of one particular subject - the more definite and structured, the better.

Positives: Mentally cautious, not easily fooled, orderly mind, serious when necessary, level-headed, discriminating, shrewd, strong concentration, patient.

Negatives: Procrastinating, sceptical, given to melancholy, suspicious, censorious, uses others, narrow-minded, too exacting, intolerant.
Venus in Aquarius
With the Planet of Love and Beauty in Aquarius, they have an open and experimental approach to relating and to artistic expression. On the one hand this can be both relaxing and stimulating, as it allows others to loosen up and be more themselves, but then again it can make it rather difficult for others to know where those with Venus in Aquarius are coming from emotionally, as their style can be disconcerting, even shocking, or just plain odd.

They have a liberal attitude that aspires to accommodating all types of people, but unless they actually devise some kind of individual moral code, relationships can float away on the breeze as their free-and-easiness turns out to be a case of hedging their bets. Venus in Aquarius' coolly and impersonally affectionate nature goes down very well with friends and at social gatherings, but it can also make it quite easy for someone closer than a friend to up and leave. With such a blithe and deceptively undemanding air about them, it may be difficult to comprehend why they experience so much heat and hassle in emotional relationships.

Positives: Free-loving, idealistic, easygoing, liberal, original lover, non-possessive, unique, mild, experimental, progressive, eclectic, popular, friendly, tongue-in-cheek, quietly persevering, humane.

Negatives: Naive, indiscriminate, erratic, odd lover, unfeeling, peculiar, touchy, insincere, superficial, promiscuous, impersonal, flattering, sarcastic, stubborn, uncompromisting.
Mars in Libra
As Mars symbolizes the urge to be independent and assertive, it has its wings clipped in socially-conscious Libra. If those with this sign are wanting to make a decisive move or statement, they find it cannot easily be done without some prior sanction or approval from others in general, or from one person in particular. So, the challenge is to get what they want but to fit it in with social values and emotional requirements. This is challenging indeed, and the dynamics of Mars in Libra seem to force them into finding this balance one way or the other. Libra also has the effect on Mars of softening its hard-cutting edge. This is particularly hard-going on the male ego, but, of all the planetary influences, selfish and hard-headed Mars has probably been most responsible for the harm and strife in the world. So it can be very worthwhile (indeed manly) to use such force and drive sensitively, rather than selfishly.

Essentially, Mars in Librans are initiators of social activities and new social values. Their desires spring up from a feeling of wanting everyone to be in harmony and to pull together. So, their forceful and impatient qualities really have to be expressed in a graceful or aesthetic fashion in order for them to make their point. However, what can happen is that their own wishes and opinions do not get put across for fear of social ridicule or sexual rejection. The anger and resentment that can mount up as a result of this may then come out in an anything but graceful way.

Positives: Attentive lover, enthusiastic, skilful lover, gentle, fair, easygoing, diplomatic, persuasive, perceptive, idealistic, intuitive, principled, polite, considerate, agreeable.

Negatives: Fawning, idolizing, impersonal, tentative, misleading, awkward, judgmental, unreal, unfeeling, self-limiting, inhibited, vulgar, selfish, implusive.
