What is a Fanlisting?
A fanlisting is a listing of fans of a particular subject - in this case, a tennis player. When you join, your details (name, email [this can be hidden], URL [this is optional], and country) are listed on the member page. Fanlistings serve no real "purpose" except to attempt to build the biggest list of people from around the world who are fans of the same subject. For more information on the concept behind fanlistings, please visit The Fanlistings Network.
Why Roger?
It's simple. One can't help but admire Roger Federer. He will go down in history as the best of a generation of tennis players; possibly of all generations. In addition to this incredible talent, he is humble, polite, generous, charitable, funny, and a gentleman. The more I find out about Roger, the more things I find to admire about him. Frankly, what tennis lover wouldn't want to run his fanlisting?
What's in a name?
The idea came from Roger's 2006 ATP blog. He wrote: "I have had many fans write me about a t-shirt I wore during practice the other day. It was blue t-shirt Nike made for the US Open and they borrowed the theme of James Bond and instead of the "Man with the Golden Gun", they wrote that "Roger Federer is the Man with the Golden Racquet." You can see my shadow and the text in the shirt. Nike made it in different colours and I think it looks really great. I have always been a James Bond junkie....tell me how cool that guy is????"
Needless to say, I also thought it was a great idea so when I found out that I had been approved to run this fanlisting by TFL.org, I immediately knew what the title was going to be.
