Charity Work
As you may guess given that Federer was presented with the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year award in 2007, Roger is heavily involved with charity through his own foundation and UNICEF.
Personal Charity
The Roger Federer Foundation was established in December of 2003. It functions mainly within South Africa due to Roger's connections with the country (his mother is South African) and is primarily concerned with providing aid to disadvantaged children. He recently visited South Africa to view the work the foundation is doing on the ground. After the 2004 tsunami, Roger was one of the primary figures behind the charity tournaments that were set up to raise money and awareness for victims of the disaster. He also auctioned off signed racquets to raise funds for UNICEF tsunami relief operations.
UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
Roger was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF in April of 2006. Upon being given position, he stated; "I am honoured to join the ranks of UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassadors. I've been lucky in life and able to pursue my passion for tennis since I was six years old. It's important to me to help the many children throughout the world who do not have the basic resources they need." In December of 2006, Roger made a trip to visit the children of Tamil Nadu, an area devistated by the 2004 tsunami, in his role as ambassador. In addition to this, Roger and UNICEF recently produced the 'Feder-bear', a cute stuffed bear who wears similar clothes to his namesake. Profit from sales of the bear go to UNICEF.
