The top section of this page contains the top 7 fanlistings, in order of importance, that I would love to own. I am in no way suggesting that the current owners of these fanlistings aren't maintaining them well. They're just fanlistings that I would love have a chance at owning one day. I have also included my granted wishes at the bottom of the page - as you can see, I've already been very lucky with my approvals. :)
Characters >> Harry Potter: Teddy Lupin |
|
![]() |
Why? One of my favourite parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the introduction of Teddy’s character. Aside from my love of his relationship with his father (see my granted wishes below), I also love Teddy for just being the gorgeous Metamorphmagus that he is. I like to think that he has traits of both his parents; that he would be loyal, fun, intelligent, mischievous, moral, and brave. Regardless, with a godfather like Harry and a grandmother like Andromeda in his life, I’m sure he grew into a ‘great wizard’, as Remus had toasted at his birth – a child that, ultimately, both Remus and Dora would be proud of. I also love that he is so significant within the series. His story mirrors Harry’s and has therefore allowed the series to come full-circle. For all these reasons, I would love to have the opportunity one day to run this fabulous character’s fanlisting. |
Characters >> Poirot: Hercule Poirot |
|
![]() |
Why? I really love fictional detectives and Hercule is probably my favourite of them all (Dr. Kreizler, see my granted wishes below, is actually forensic psychologist rather than a detective). No criminal can beat Hercule’s “little grey cells” and, despite being slightly ego-centric, nothing can cheer me up more than watching Poirot go about his business using his own fastidious techniques. He is also charming in his own, rather unique, way. All in all, I love Poirot and I’m sure that I would enjoy running his fanlisting one day. |
Academia >> Psychology |
|
![]() |
Why? When I first started at University, I was enrolled in an Information Technology (computer programming) degree. Due to a mix-up with timetabling, I ended up having to choose an elective outside of this area during my first semester and, although I didn’t know what to expect, I chose a psychology course. I am not exaggerating when I say that from my first lecture, it was LOVE. I knew from that moment that I wanted a career within psychology. Although I did end up completing my IT degree, I also completed a separate psychology degree and am currently completing postgraduate study in an area of research psychology. I have enjoyed being part of this academic field so much since I entered it five years ago that I would love to own the fanlisting for it. |
Characters >> Titanic: Rose DeWitt Butaker |
|
![]() |
Why? I love the character of Rose. She is symbolic of a generation of women during the late 1800s and early 1900s who felt trapped in their circumstances and wanted independence. Yet, Titanic's Rose is more than that, as well. She's firey, determined, and beautiful. Thanks to her intelligence, she can hold her own against the wealthiest business men. Yet, she is also soft, artistic, idealistic, and she appreciates good people (regardless of their social class). Despite all of this, she isn't perfect. Rose is still young, fragile, and doesn't yet grasp the power she has in her own two hands to live her dreams and change her life. I can relate to Rose in many different ways - good and bad - and one of the reasons why I love watching Titanic is due to her. She is featured in about 75% of all my collective layouts and avatars. It would mean a lot to me to own her fanlisting. |
Actresses >> Kate Winslet |
|
![]() |
Why? I don't have many actors and actresses that I 'follow' but of the few that I love, Kate is my all-time favourite. I first saw her in Sense & Sensibility as Marianne Dashwood, and even though she was still young and her career was only just beginning, her acting ability shone. Since then, she has acted incredible parts such as Rose DeWitt Butaker in Titanic, Clementine Kruczynski in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Sylvia Llewelyn Davies in Finding Neverland. She gives all her characters a strength and spirit that, as an audience member, you can't help but admire. I think Kate is incredibly talented, beautiful, and I don't think she's made a movie I haven't loved (or at least enjoyed on some level) which is why I would simply love to run her fanlisting. |
Relationships >> Harry Potter: Lily Evans Potter and Severus Snape |
|
![]() |
Why? This is a relationship that I never thought I would like but, after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it has fast become one of my all-time favourite parts of the series. Snape’s love of Lily, one which he carried throughout his life (his Patronus always being Lily’s doe *sighs*) and ultimately laid down his life for, is simply beautiful and tragic. I find it incredibly sad that Snape was unable to see that his true love was Lily and not the dark arts – something he would regret for the rest of his life – but I’m glad he redeemed himself by helping her son in his mission. Like I said above, I find this relationship to be both tragic and beautiful, and as a result, I know that I would enjoy running this relationship fanlisting. |
Animals >> Fresian Horses |
|
![]() |
Why? I have loved horses for as long as I can remember and Fresians have been my favourite breed for that same length of time. I'm not really sure why I love this breed so much except that they're powerful yet graceful and have an incredibly beautiful appearance. With their ebony black coats and long flowing manes, tails, and hoof feathering, they are really quite a sight to behold. I think it's impossible not to love these gorgeous creatures and I know I'd have a lot of fun with this fanlisting. |
Granted Wishes
Here you can find my granted wishes - as you can see, I've already been very lucky with my approvals! These are presented in order of category, rather than importance.
Animals >> Welsh Springer Spaniels |
|
![]() |
Why? I love all gun dogs but I have always had a particular fondness for these spunky red and white spaniels. They fill your home and life with naughtiness and fun; they are always the life of the party. This fanlisting is dedicated to my darling Welshie, Bonnie, who left us far too early - she was only 9 months old when she passed away unexpectedly. |
Characters >> The Chronicles of Narnia: Aslan |
|
![]() |
Why? I have loved Aslan for as long as I can remember. In fact, when I was very small - too young to read a novel on my own - I remember listening to my tapes of The Chronicles of Narnia in bed and loving the parts where Aslan plays a main role in the story. As I grew up, I began to understand the deeper significance of Aslan's character and, due to my beliefs, it has only made me love him more. Put simply, Aslan is the reason I love Narnia. He may not be a "tame lion" but he truly is a messenger of peace, love, forgiveness, and sacrifice. |
Characters >> The Alienist: Dr. Laszlo Kreizler |
|
![]() |
Why? Dr. Kreizler, a late nineteenth century psychologist, is one of the more complex, enigmatic, and perplexing characters in the Alienist books. Aside from his superior intelligence, strong sense of morals, gentlemanly nature, open-mindedness, and subtle sense of humour, I also love his dealings with the troubled and disadvantaged children that he devotes his life to at the Kreizler Institute. I’ll let Stevie, one of Laszlo’s wards in the books, sum up how he makes his ‘charges’ feel; “His eyes sparkled with a message of hope, and the smallest, quickest smile told me to have courage. All in a rush and for the first time in my life, I felt like someone over the age of fifteen truly gave a goddamn about my existence.” From that quote alone, I ask: how could anybody not admire and love such a character? |
Characters >> Harry Potter: Remus Lupin |
|
![]() |
Why? Like many others, I fell in love with Remus after reading PoA, when he was first introduced as the new Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts. Although he only taught at Hogwarts for a year, he bought compassion, tolerance, and gentle humour into the classroom, not only endearing him to his students but also to us, the readers. Aside from his cleverness and kindness as a teacher, his devotion to his family and the bravery that he demonstrates both with his inner battle with lycanthropy and in the war throughout the subsequent Harry Potter books has only made me admire him more. Remus has always been my favourite of all the Harry Potter characters and I'm so honoured to be able to run his fanlisting. |
History/Royalty >> Victorian Costume |
|
![]() |
Why? Victorian costume changed dramatically over the entire nineteenth century period from Early-Victorian fashion (typified by crinolines and engageantes) through to Mid-Victorian fashion (typified by bustles) and finally to Late-Victorian fashion (typified by slim fitting dresses, suits, and S-bend corsets). I love the creativity, lavish detail, and beautiful fabrics that were put into Victorian fashion. Although many of the beautiful dresses that were made during this period brimmed with imagination, they still maintained femininity and modesty; things that I think we have since lost. I continue to study Victorian fashion (my collection of books on the subject just seems to keep growing!) and it has always been a desire of mine to open a museum of Victorian fashion. Although that isn’t possible – not yet, at least – I’m glad that I can at least run a fanlisting and mini-fansite for the costume of my favourite time period. |
History/Royalty >> Victorian Era |
|
![]() |
Why? Despite Queen Victoria’s more traditional likings, the Victorian era was a time of great and rapid change. It was the time of the industrial revolution, the first women's rights movement, the emerging field of psychology and forensic science, and technological advancements. It was also during this era that such modern conveniences like the telephone and electricity came into usage. However, it was also a time of great social divides with many children being forced into hard labour and prostitution due to poverty. Regardless of the problems that the era held, though, we owe a lot to the 'Victorians'. I love this time period immensely – in fact, I sometimes think that I was born into the wrong century – so I’m very glad that I am able to co-own this fanlisting. |
Literature >> The Alienist |
|
![]() |
Why? The Alienist is a psychological thriller which revolves around one of the earliest forensic teams put together in the late 19th century. In order to catch a serial killer, the NY Police Commissoner (Theodore Roosevelt) put together a secret and rather unexpected forensic team including a journalist (John Moore), a police secretary (Sara Howard), two detectives (the Isaacsons), and the "alienist" himself (Laszlo Kreizler). In addition to finding out how a psychological profile is built of a criminal, within the pages of this book you also get to fall in love with the timeless characters it describes. I found this to be a facinating read and the best of the series so far – I recommend it to anyone who likes psychology, thrillers, or just want to enjoy a good mystery. |
Relationships >> Remus Lupin and Teddy Lupin |
|
![]() |
Why? I think these quotes from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, when Teddy’s birth was announced, explain why I love this father/son relationship: “[Remus] seemed dazed by his own happiness” and “He looked years younger than Harry had ever seen him.” Remus had been through so much hardship in his life that I was ecstatic to see him have a baby son who he loved so much. Although it is tragic that Remus had so little time with his son, I’m sure he would have been a wonderful father – indeed, his greatest desire when he was alive was to protect his baby and he kept his son’s photograph on him at all times, even in battle. Still, I’m sure that Teddy would have been raised to know how much Remus loved him and would always carry his father with him in spirit throughout his life. |
Sports >> Roger Federer |
|
![]() |
Why? One can't help but admire Roger Federer. He will go down in history as the best of a generation of tennis players; possibly of all generations. In addition to this incredible talent, he is humble, polite, generous, charitable, funny, and a gentleman. The more I find out about Roger, the more things I find to admire about him. Frankly, what tennis lover wouldn't want to run his fanlisting? |
TV/Movie/Book Miscellany >> Ravenclaw House |
|
![]() |
Why? Being an academic, I have always felt an affinity with Ravenclaw. In fact, I’m sure that if I were a Hogwarts student, this is the house that I would be sorted into. I highly respect the values emphasised in this house – those of wisdom, creativity, learning, and intelligence. I also love other things that Ravenclaws seem to give significance to. Spectacular landscape views, beautiful things, and libraries full of books, for instance. ;) It seems natural, then, that I would want to run this fanlisting and I’m very glad that I have been able to. |
